I am running windows XP and have 512 ram (Dinosaur), I removed java completely a while ago and decided to try it again. I can download it, and it is in Chrome downloads, and in download folder's too.

But when I try to 'open' it, nothing happens. I gave up, and a few days later, I tried to download and open a memory test, it wouldn't 'open' either. It too is in my download folder I googled '.exe files won't open running windows XP' and It brought me to a forum post here.

I turned defender back on and tried to 'open' the java download and low and behold it did open and is now installed. Now I will give it a little time to see if it helps with my other issues.

Which is shockwave crashes a lot when I open multiple tabs. I don't know if java has squat to do with shockwave so for me it's a shot in the dark.
